The end of life care team on Wellow Unit at Isle of Wight NHS Trust have been shortlisted for The Sun’s Who Cares Wins health awards in the ‘Best Team’ category.
The category they have been nominated for, Best Team, is for any NHS or healthcare team on the frontline and behind the scenes that has gone above and beyond the call of duty.
Wellow Unit have also made it down to the final three, beating over 100 nominations!
Care for more than 1,300 patients since February 2020
Since opening in February 2020 the team have cared for over 1,300 patients and their families.
In those two years the team have supported our Island’s community through some of the toughest and most distressing times, always focused on making sure our patients have the best possible care as their lives draw to an end.

Shane Moody, Clinical Director for End of Life Care Isle of Wight NHS Trust, said,
“We are absolutely delighted to have been nominated for this award.
“I am so proud of the team on Wellow Unit, the nomination recognises everyone’s commitment and passion to provide the best possible end of life care to people and their families.”
Pearce: A fantastic achievement for the team
Juliet Pearce, Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals, Isle of Wight NHS Trust said,
“This is a fantastic achievement for the team on Wellow Unit. Since opening in February 2020 the team have made a huge difference to people who are reaching the end of their lives.
“I am delighted that the team have been recognised for their commitment and hard work.”

The Sun’s Who Cares Wins health awards are organised in partnership with Channel 4, The National Lottery and NHS Charities Together.
TV presenter Davina McCall will be back to present this year’s awards ceremony on Tuesday 22nd November 2022 at the Roundhouse in Camden, London and will be aired on Channel 4 on Sunday 27th November at 6.30pm.
