Following rabid speculation on social media over the last month as to whether the Isle of Wight Festival would go ahead next year, organisers have today (Thursday) announced the dates.
Once again on the usual second weekend of June, the event will take place between 8th – 11th June 2017.
Tickets will go on sale next month for the 15th Isle of Wight Festival which recently picked up awards at the Live UK Music Awards for Best Festival (over 40,000) and Best Family Festival at the Family Traveller Awards, not to mention John Giddings’ ‘Outstanding Contribution’ accolade.
Why the speculation?
Speculation as to whether the Festival would return to the Isle of Wight next year arose after organisers, Solo, had asked for the land fee of £55,000 payable to the council be waived.
Information contained in the council papers associated with the request had – a spokesperson for the council advised – been misinterpreted by some national and trade press journalists.
Following this, Solo withdrew their request and are now in talks with the council “to look at other alternatives to help reducing the costs of staging the event.”
