The licensing sub-committee will be considering an application from Solo Promoters Limited later this month, for the Isle of Wight Festival premises licence.
The previous license, which had been granted for three years, expired in 2010. This application appears to be open-ended, with license being requested as 9th to 12th June 2011 and thereafter annually at the same time of year.
As we mentioned back in March, the application also includes an increased capacity from 69,999 to 89,999 people.
Public consultation attracted objections
Following a 28 day consultation period, representations have been received from local residents, Environmental Health, the Police, ward councillors and Newport Parish council, with some strong objections to the increased capacity.
The Environmental Health division has recommended thirteen amendments and additional control measures, whilst the Police have also proposed similar, as well as additional conditions.
Cllr Dawn Cousins, ward councillor for Newport North has raised many concerns on behalf of constituents (see her letter below), as well as her own concerns about the length of the license and the capacity issue.
The application will be heard by the licensing sub-committee on 17th May at 6pm.
