We’re always amazed/stunned/disgusted at how many people decide to leave their tents at a festival site once they’ve finished with it.
Organisers of the Isle of Wight Festival tell us that a shocking one in six festival goers abandoned their tents at last year’s festival.
Given the torrential rain experienced in 2011 at the festival, it’s not surprising that some chose not to pack up their muddy tents and cart them home on public transport. However, camping paraphernalia – tents, camping equipment and gazebo’s – equated to 25% of the whopping 152.62 tonnes of waste of landfill waste from the whole festival.
Love Your Tent
It’s with this in mind that Isle of Wight Festival are launching this year’s environmentally friendly campaign LOVE YOUR TENT!
It’s been created by the Eco Action Partnership and is designed to “bond people with their tents”.
Festival organisers tell us that they’re supporting LOVE YOUR TENT with loads of onsite stuff going on, to get festival-goers involved and be a part of the action.
Camp with Respect
There will also be a Love Your Tent showcase camping field called RESPECT, which is free to book for all of those people who want to do their bit for the environment.
Campers will sign up to abide by the 10 Tent Commandments and in return they’ll be given a Greenback loyalty card which will give discounts on goods and services across the Island and on site.
