Isle of Wight Group hosting free events for Diabetes Awareness Month

Diabetes Group Isle of Wight is an Island charity whose vision is to encourage people with all types of diabetes to enhance their enjoyment of life.

As part of their support for Diabetes Awareness Month they’ve organised free events taking place on Wednesday and Friday next week.

How to ensure the future health of your eyes
On Friday 18th November, the Group will be hosting representatives from the Hampshire and IW Eye Screening Service who will provide an overview and update on eye care services for people living with diabetes on the Isle of Wight.

The event will give people with diabetes, or those who care for someone living with diabetes, the chance to find out more about eyecare services on the Island, with advice on how to ensure the future health of their eyes.

An essential part of taking care of your health
Regular eye checks are an essential part of taking care of your health if you have diabetes.

The guest speaker will share expert knowledge on eyecare, including information on the importance of regular checks and some of the common complications and how to prevent this for people living with diabetes.

Bast: I’m sure you will not be disappointed in joining us
Ian Bast, Chairman of Diabetes Group IW said,

“We are delighted to be hosting the Hampshire and IW Eye Screening Service. They will be sharing very important and helpful information about eye care, providing helpful information to help prevent sight loss.

“Diabetes increases the risk of developing problems with your eyes, some of which can be serious and even lead to sight loss. We are pleased to say that risks such as these can be avoided.

“We welcome anyone interested in eyecare to come along to find out more about this important aspect of diabetes care and self-management. I’m sure you will not be disappointed in joining us.”
