Wight Sequins British Champions in the Juvenile category

Isle of Wight ice skaters bring home Gold and become British Champions

Huge congratulations are in order for the Isle of Wight’s ice skating teams who last week returned home from the Britannia Cup at the Bauer Arena at iceSheffield as British Champions.

Despite not having a home rink to train and practice on, the Wight Crystals team (pictured below) celebrated bringing home Gold for the first time, whilst the Wight Sequins team (pictured above), who have been unbeaten this season, returned home with Gold as British Champions.

Smith: Every team skated so well
Their team coach, Terri Smith, told News OnTheWight,

“Every team skated so well. I’m super proud of their achievements this season. We have a new adult team formed this season, at their second competition they improved so much and got a personal best of over five points.

“Wight Jewels our Senior B team were very unlucky as they had a collision just before their difficult lift element. They pushed on and performed amazingly. In the closest competition of the weekend they were fourth, less than two points off a silver medal and half a point from bronze.”

Smith: I’m so proud of everyone involved
Terri went on to say,

“Wight Sequins won the juvenile category and were unbeaten this season. Three competitions and three golds.

“Wight Crystals our Junior B team have been second in their first two competitions this season and have improved enormously. Over 16 points from November – April. They performed their best ever when it mattered, winning the British championships. It’s the first time they have won.

“I’m so proud of everyone involved from skaters, parents, all coaches and ice rink staff.”

Three cheers to everyone who worked hard to make this a reality.
