Magistrates' reception at Shanklin Chine

Isle of Wight Magistrates recognised for keeping the wheels of justice turning

The Isle of Wight High Sheriff, James Attrill , hosted a reception for the Island’s Magistrates on Sunday 5th September at Shanklin Chine.

The High Sheriff commented,

“The Island is lucky to have a dedicated and experienced compliment of Magistrates.

“The last 18 months have put the court under considerable pressure, but with superb support from court staff, the Magistrates have still heard cases and kept the wheels of justice turning.

“Law is a serious matter and difficult decisions have to be made – the Island community should thank these volunteers for their hard work and professional approach in helping to maintain law and order.”

39 years of service
The reception was especially special as it was an opportunity for Steve Howe, a Magistrate with 39 years of service, to be given a long service award having retired form the Bench in May 2020.
