Isle of Wight Milk, the first co-operative of its kind in the UK, was featured on BBC1’s Inside Out programme last night.
If you watched the programme and wondered why you missed the feature, it’s because it was on the West Midlands version.
Isle of Wight dairy farmer Justin Birch, explained to a struggling farmer from Staffordshire how the co-operative was set up and ‘I Love Isle of Wight Milk’ campaign brought to the attention of the milk-buying public.
Rising sales, but more needed
A groundswell of support followed, with sales of Isle of Wight milk rising from one fifth of sales on the Island to one quarter. The campaign is by no means complete, the farmers need to see another 30% growth in sales in order for them to succeed with their campaign.
