Isle of Wight nursery achieves ‘Good’ rating in remarkable turnaround

An Isle of Wight Nursery has been lifted out of an ‘Inadequate’ rating by Ofsted and is now regarded as ‘Good’ in all areas.

In March 2023, the YMCA Newport Nursery at St Mary’s Hospital had been given an overall rating of ‘Inadequate’.

By May 2023, Ofsted had served a welfare requirements notice on the nursery, after it had reported ‘a significant event’. A regulatory visit found the provider was not meeting some of the legal requirements in the Statutory framework and plans to remedy this were put in place.

A return visit at the end of July has now found the Nursery is rated ‘Good’ in:

  • The quality of education
  • Behaviour and attitudes
  • Personal development
  • Leadership and management
