Darren Galpin from the Isle of Wight Palestine Solidarity Campaign shares this latest news. Ed
At our weekly gathering this Saturday, 7th March 2026, supporters of Isle of Wight Palestine Solidarity Campaign will also raise opposition to the UK government’s participation in the war in Iran.
Though the government have so far not allowed UK bases to be used for offensive missions by the US, they are providing defensive cover and other logistical support. This is an illegal war.
Our government should be unequivocal in providing no military support whatsoever. Our intervention should be restricted to providing support for civilians stranded in the Middle East.
Supporting transition to democracy
We support the movement of Iranian people for a transition to democracy. The huge sums of money being spent on enforced regime change would be better spent providing resources to equip the civil society groups in Iran, who are the people best placed to manage the destiny of their country.
Anti-war protest
We also observe that this phase of the war will be used to further the genocide and displacement of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. Activists will be at St Thomas Square, Newport, this Saturday (7th March 2026) from 12-2pm and every Saturday thereafter.
We encourage all anti-war Islanders to come and stand with us.
