Isle of Wight police seek witnesses to Newport sexual assault incident on teenage girl

Isle of Wight police are appealing for witnesses to a sexual assault that occurred on the Isle of Wight.

At around 8pm on Tuesday 30th January we received a third party report of an incident which took place in Newport.

We have conducted a number of enquiries, including speaking with the victim and scoping for CCTV in the area, and understand that the incident took place shortly after 8.50pm on Monday 29th January in an alleyway on Pan Estate.

Sexually assaulted in an alleyway
It was reported that a 17-year-old girl was approached in the Downside Playing Fields by a man she did not know who offered to walk her home. At around 8.50pm they walked from the fields before the girl was sexually assaulted by the man in an alleyway.

The man is described as white, slim, tall, softly spoken, with dark curly hair and wearing black clothing.

We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed anything or saw a man matching this description in the area at the time. We would also urge this man to come forward to speak to police.
