Isle of Wight primary schools can benefit from £1,000 grants to help encourage pupils to protects the environment

There is still time for primary schools on the Isle of Wight to apply for a share of a £10,000 fund set up by Wightlink to encourage youngsters to undertake projects that help the environment.

Under the Wightlink Green Fund for Schools initiative, grants – typically between £500-£1,000 in value – are available for educational projects that bring lasting environmental benefit to schools and their communities and which help Islanders to live in a more sustainable way now and in the future.

The fund – open to all Island primary schools – is part of Wightlink’s commitments to sustainable travel and working with the local community.

Greenfield: Still time for others to submit their ideas
Wightlink Chief Executive, Keith Greenfield, said,

“We have received some interesting ideas from schools since the fund was launched at the beginning of the month, but there is still time for others to submit their ideas to us.

“We are looking for projects that offer a positive environmental impact, encourage and protect wildlife or which raise awareness of green issues.

“It could be an idea to produce sustainable energy or reduce carbon output, that cuts waste, saves water, encourages recycling, creates habitat, conserves nature or reduces single-use plastics. We know schools are passionate about protecting and improving the environment and we are looking forward to working with them on projects that do just that.”

Lasting legacies
Initiatives that leave a legacy, provide ongoing education or continue past the funding year will also be looked upon favourably.

Further details and an application form can be found on the Website. The deadline for applications is Friday 18 February 2022.
