It’s a busy weekend coming up and with so much happening on Saturday, you might be thinking of having a lazy day on Sunday.
If so, think again, for this Sunday sees the return of the hugely popular Big Day Out. This year it takes place at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway in Havenstreet.
Visiting Ventnor Cricket Ground and Botanics last year, this major event aims to promote the safeguarding of children and young people.
It is always popular and although entrance is free, you do need to pick up tickets beforehand.
There will be loads of organisations and services exhibiting and you’ll get a chance to speak to staff from lots of organisations including the IOW College, Connexions and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards.
As well as all the interesting information you can pick up, there’s plenty of entertainment planned. A live music stage will feature local bands, there will also be bouncy castles, face painting, hair braiding, a mini-moto display and even gladiator games. IOW Radio will be broadcasting live from the site.
Sadly due to the number of visitors expected the steam railway will not be running. Seems a great shame, but I guess it could’ve been difficult keeping visitors off the tracks.
So where can you pick up your tickets? Lots of places around the Island, including public libraries, children’s centres, youth centres, as well as the Newport based Family Information Zone (FIZ) and at Connexions information points in the Island’s five High Schools.
There will be Free bus travel to the event from around the Island, provided by Wightbus and free parking is also available at the venue.
If you are planning to drive, please use Briddlesford Road as the Main Road in Havenstreet is closed. Diversion signs will be in place.
