Isle of Wight swimmer honoured for commitment and service to the aquatics industry

Victoria Thorneton-Field from Swim The Wight CIC has been honoured by the Swimming Teachers’ Association (STA), a national governing body for swimming, by being appointed a Brand Ambassador in recognition of her commitment and service to the aquatics industry.

Supporting STA’s objectives
STA is also an international award-winning charity dedicated to the preservation of human life through the teaching of swimming, lifesaving and survival techniques, and in this new voluntary ambassador role, Victoria will be working to support these objectives.

She will use her experience and knowledge to offer assistance to the organisation’s new and existing 12,000 + members and swim school partners.

Victoria is one of 52 Brand Ambassadors appointed by STA from hundreds of applications, received.

Thorneton-Field: Proud to be appointed an Ambassador
She said,

“I’m very proud to be appointed an Ambassador for my national governing body and to be in a position to help make a difference. As ambassadors we have been given the opportunity, and the communications channel, to feedback the information we receive at a local level from the aquatic community, and relay this right through to the top of the STA.

“This line of communication and support network is all the more important at this critical time too with COVID-19, as the leisure market has been one of the hardest to be hit by the pandemic.”

What is Swim The Wight?
Swim The Wight wants an Island where everyone who wants to swim (this includes non-swimmers who use the water for recreation/health benefits) in the sea can swim safely and where the benefits of sea swimming are known to all, regardless of physical and mental ability.

We want our community to be a beacon of hope for all seaside communities, showing that health and happiness do not depend solely on money.

Promoting safe sea swimming
We aim to promote safe sea swimming to all sectors of society, forming a community of sea swimmers who support and encourage each other both in swimming and non-swimming related activities. We aim to enthuse others by holding events and social activities; support and encourage research into the benefits of sea swimming and enable new people to try out sea swimming, by offering guidance together with moral and practical support. Where it proves necessary we will campaign to create a safer and more accessible environment for swimmers.

Swim The Wight sessions
Swim The Wight offers a range of sessions in the sea from acclimatisation and understanding how your body reacts to cold water, what to wear and take with you as well as stroke improvement coaching, fitness sessions, building confidence in the water or simply bobbing about and chatting!

These sessions are all led by qualified STA Level 2 Open Water swimming coaches.

Candler: We thank you for your continued support
Dave Candler, STA CEO, says,

“This is a very difficult time for leisure, but the STA Family have responded positively to bring about a new sense of community, helping each other during these difficult times.  In line with this ‘community’ ethos, STA has formally recognised this generous support with the appointment of our new Brand Ambassadors.

“Congratulations Victoria.

“The STA team are really looking forward to working with you and all the ambassadors over the next 12 months, and we thank you for your continued support.”
