On Saturday 6th August Isle of Wight teenager, Finn Smith, made FA Cup history as the youngest footballer to score an FA Cup goal.
Finn signed for Newport IW FC on 5th August, his 16th birthday, and scored the goal the following day during an away game with Fleet Town FC in the Emirates FA Cup.
“Well chuffed”
Finn told BBC Sport that he was well chuffed with the goal, adding that he was happy enough to be on the pitch, let along score a goal. The goal helped Newport IW FC secure a 3-1 victory.
In true Isle of Wight style, Finn celebrated the record-breaking goal at a beach party later that night.
Confirmed by the FA
The history-making goal was confirmed by the FA in a tweet the following week.
The previous record-holder was 16 years and 25-days-old.
