Isle of Wight To Host Two-Day Royal Visit

The Earl of Wessex His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex is to visit the Isle of Wight on Wednesday 29 June and Thursday 30 June 2011 to attend the NatWest Island Games.

During the two-day visit, His Royal Highness will meet athletes, sporting officials and volunteers involved in the inter-island sporting event which was established in 1985.

Visiting Sporting events
On Wednesday 29 June His Royal Highness will visit the following sporting venues:

Golf: Shanklin-Sandown Golf Club

Volleyball: Fairway Centre, Sandown High School

Athletics: Fairway Centre, Sandown High School

Table Tennis: Ryde School, Queen’s Road

Badminton: Ryde High School, Pell Lane

Visits to Brading Roman Villa and Newport Minster
His Royal Highness will also visit Brading Roman Villa and Newport Minster, where he is Patron of both.

At Brading Roman Villa His Royal Highness will learn about the long term sustainable strategy for the villa and view the museum’s new display case.

His Royal Highness will view the restoration work at Newport Minster and attend a private meeting to discuss the future appeal strategy.

In the evening His Royal Highness will also be guest of honour at the Island Games Association Reception being held at The Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes.

More sporting events
On Thursday 30 June His Royal Highness will visit further NatWest Island Games sporting events:

Tennis: Ryde Lawn Tennis Club

Sailing and windsurfing: Yaverland Sailing Club, Culver Parade

His Royal Highness will also visit Carisbrooke Castle Museum to meet trustees and supporters. He will view the museum’s new website which contains historic images of the Isle of Wight.

At the museum His Royal Highness will also present the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service to three Island Groups: Carers UK (Isle of Wight), Isle of Wight Ramblers and New2U & Time Out 4U.
