NatWest Island Games Opening Ceremony: Parking and General Info

As we mentioned earlier today, there will be a number of road restrictions and bus diversions this coming Saturday for the NatWest Island Games Opening Ceremony.

This info below is taken from the IW council website today.

Various traffic and parking restrictions will be in operation in certain roads in the Ryde Esplanade and Town Centre areas between 2pm and approx 11pm on Saturday 25 June 2011 when the Island Games Opening Ceremony takes place.

Quay Road Car Park Will be closed from 6pm on Thursday 23 June 2011 until approx 12pm (noon) on Sunday 26 June 2011.

Appley Car Park will be closed from 2pm until approx 11pm on Saturday 25 June 2011 in connection with the event.

Free park and ride
A free park and ride bus service will operate from Smallbrook Stadium to the Esplanade (near to the Beijing Palace) between 2pm and 4.45pm and back from the Esplanade to Smallbrook Stadium from 6.45pm until 10pm.

People attending the event are advised to use the park and ride service as there is minimal on road parking near to the Esplanade (where the event takes place). It is also likely that town car parks will be full by early to mid afternoon.

Disabled blue badge holders are also asked to use the park and ride bus service as there will be little additional disabled parking available in the area.

Full details of the parade’s route and entertainment is detailed in the leaflet below, embedded for your convenience.
