Isle of Wight village shows compassion for Calais refugees

Since the Collection for Calais appeal started last week, hundreds of Islanders have risen to the challenge of helping out.

None more so than the residents of tiny Alverstone village.

We love this message posted by Shennon Slade to the ‘Collection for Calais’ Facebook event page.

She said,

“Small village with a BIG heart. Alverstone old village has collected loads of socks, toothpastes, toothbrushes, shampoo, soaps, 17 jackets and a couple of trousers.

“Numbers don’t sound a lot but wow just in a few hours…Your kindness means a lot. It’s amazing.”
