Thanks to VB reader Simon Hoare for alerting us to this news out today.
According to an article in the Guardian, sea surrounding the Isle of Wight is to be included in a list of 127 sea areas around the UK that have been proposed as new nature reserves.
The purpose of the nature reserves, a spokesperson from the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) said today, was to “conserve a mixture of wildlife, habitats, geology and geomorphology.
The areas, which in total cover more than 37,000 sq km, have been chosen through public consultation, with over one million individuals’ interests considered.
We’ll have to wait around a year for the formal designation, but it is great news for any rare or threatened wildlife/marine life.
Hurrah!
