Isle of Wight youths charged with theft, anti social behaviour, criminal damage and burglary

Two youths were charged over the weekend in connection with a series of incidents in the Ryde area between September and November.

Ryde Neighbourhoods Policing Team (NPT) have been investigating these incidents and secured the following charges on Sunday (13th November):

  • A 14-year-old boy from Sandown was charged with six counts of theft from a shop, relating to £303.50 worth of alcohol and a hotdog stolen between 31st October and 10th November from Co-op on Anglesea Street.
  • A 13-year-old boy from Ryde was charged with eight counts of theft from a shop, relating to £408 worth of alcohol and some food stolen from Co-op on Anglesea Street between 31st October and 10th November. He was also charged with possessing cannabis on 15th September, and using threatening or abusive words/behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress, at the Anglesea Street Co-op on 29th September.

The 13-year-old had also previously been charged with offences, on 2nd November, along with a third teenager. 

The 13-year-old boy was charged with:

  • Burglary at WHSmith on Ryde High Street, on 25th September. £147 worth of E-cigarettes were reported stolen from behind the till area.
  • Using threatening or abusive words/behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress, at WHSmith on Ryde High Street on 26th September.
  • Causing a nuisance/disturbance on school premises on 3rd October.
  • Theft of £32 worth of alcohol from Anglesea Street Co-op on 5th October.
  • Assault by beating – relating to the alleged assault of a woman in her 50s at WHSmith on Ryde High Street, on 5th October.
  • Burglary at WHSmith on Ryde High Street, on 5th October. An unknown value of vape products were stolen from behind the till area.
  • Criminal damage to books and a carpet at WHSmith on Ryde High Street on 5th October.
  • Harassment – relating to a course of conduct against WHSmith staff on Ryde High Street between 26th September and 5th October.

A 16-year-old boy from Ryde was charged with:

  • Burglary at WHSmith on Ryde High Street, on 25th September. £147 worth of E-cigarettes were reported stolen from behind the till area.
  • Theft of £32 worth of alcohol from Anglesea Street Co-op on 5th October.

All three teenagers have been bailed with conditions to appear at the Youth Court on 21st December.
