IW Sports Achievement Awards: Recognise your sporting hero with nominations

Do you have a sporting star in your club or team? Do you know someone who is always there to support your group? Is there that stalwart who has been a local hero for decades?

Now is the chance to recognise them with the launch of nominations for the 2025 Isle of Wight Sports Achievements Awards.

The headline sponsor will again be WRS.

Change to qualification period
This year the qualification period has been changed to run broadly around the school year.

So, if you want to nominate a young athlete, a tremendous team or that person who is always there to paint the lines, make the tea or drive the bus, you can do so from 5th September 2025.

Nominations close on 31st October 2025.

Complying with Charity Commission regulations
This year the not-for-profit IW Sports Achievement Awards Ltd is running the event as it has separated from the now registered charity the Isle of Wight Sports Foundation (IWSF).

The aim of the awards will still be the same, but it has moved away from the IWSF to comply with Charity Commission regulations.

Jackson: Awards showcase the talented sportspeople
Sophie Jackson, chief operations officer of WRS, said,

“WRS is delighted to once again be the headline sponsor of the Isle of Wight Sports Awards.

“We have an incredible amount of talented sportspeople on the Island, and the awards really showcase that. They are a celebration of all that’s great in sport on the Isle of Wight.

“If you know someone who performs a t a high level, individually or as a team, make sure you put them forward for an award.”

Beasley: More nominations from secondary schools welcomed
Claire Beasley, chair of the new Awards company, said,

“We are delighted to have WRS back on board for this year and thank them for their continued support.

“We hope the change of nomination period will encourage more people to put their thinking caps on and nominate the people and teams from their club.

“Schools, in particular, should find it easy to nominate, as the achievements of their teams usually follows the academic year.

“We would really love to receive more nominations from secondary schools in particular.

“The organisational changes will not affect the running of the awards and any surplus cash will be ploughed back into the grant scheme run by the IW Sports Foundation as a donation.”
