The Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra will be taking to the stage again at the Medina Theatre on the evening of Saturday 24th January 2015.

The concert will start at 7.15pm and will be a celebration of English music.

The Wasps by Vaughan Williams
The concert will open with the well known Overture by Vaughan Williams, The Wasps.

This was part of the incidental music Vaughan Williams for a play by Aristophanes of the same name.

Viola soloist
Following the overture, the orchestra will be joined by a young Spanish viola player, Loreno Canto Wolteche, for a performance of the rarely performed Viola Concerto by York Bowen.

York Bowen was born in 1884 and died in 1961 and during his life was often referred to as the “English Rachmaninov” due to his expansive tunes. Although the Viola Concerto was first performed in 1908, this will probably be its first performance on the Isle of Wight.

Loreno Canto Wolteche, the soloist is in the advanced stages of her studies at the prestigious Yehudi Menhuin School and is already gaining a wide international reputation.

Edward Elgar’s Second Symphony
After the interval, the orchestra will perform the epic Second Symphony by Edward Elgar. Elgar’s music is widely loved, and this work will not disappoint.

Following the last concert which was a sell out, tickets are already selling well; early booking is therefore advisable. Adults £14 Under 18 £6. The concert is suitable for all ages.

Tickets are available from the Medina Theatre box office tel: 01983 823884 or via their website

As usual there will be a retiring collection in aid of the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.
