If the name Jack Botha sounds familiar, you might remember the talented young man and his former band Kerouac have been featured here in the past.
He has more than music on his mind these days however. Despite just recently performing with his current band, The Shakes, at Isle of Wight Festival, he’s now also one of five aspiring young chef finalists in the The River Cottage Rising Star 2013 competition.
Jack got in touch with OnTheWight today to share the good news and tell us more.
12 month apprenticeship
He managed to impress the judges enough to earn his place on the shortlist with his video entry, fighting off stiff competition.
The next stage in proceedings is to take part in a live cook-off on 11th July – which we’ll be able to watch through the River Cottage social networks on 17th July.
If Jack wins the competition, he’ll be walking away with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to secure 12 months employment working with the team at River Cottage HQ.
“Local food is so awesome”
Jack said,
“River Cottage’s Rising Star Competition and Young Apprenticeship Scheme have opened my eyes in to the world of professional cookery and sustainable produce.
“The experience so far has been excellent; seeing people the same age as me loving cooking, eating and sharing the same passion for organic, local food is so awesome.
“Everyone involved in this process has been invaluable and incredibly helpful and kind.”
Best of luck Jack, we’ll be rooting for you on the 11th!
