Janelle Monae and The Jolly Boys Join Bestival Lineup

After our invitation last week for writer’s to share their work with VB, we’ve received several entries from enthusiastic writers. Tim Callaghan-Martin was first off the mark with this piece of Bestival news that we’d hadn’t yet covered. Ed

Janelle Monae and The Jolly Boys Join Bestival LineupWith less than a month to go until the gates open, and Rob Da Bank’s hippy paradise provides it’s paying public with four days of delicious and esoteric music, the organisers have returned to whet our appetite with the promise of more attractions.

Freshly announced, as a UK festival exclusive, and heading up Thursday night is the soulful styling’s of Janelle Monae.

Bumper line-up
She joins the already strong roster of performers including The Prodigy, The Flaming Lips, Dizzee Rascal, LCD Soundsystem, Roxy Music, The Wailers and Mercury Prize nominees, The XX for the bash in early September.

Monae stole the show at South By Southwest back in 2009, going from a relative unknown, to critic’s darling. Hailed as the future of R&B, Janelle’s show is bound to be a showstopper, and one not to miss.

And there’s more
Furthermore, The Jolly Boys will be bringing a touch of old-school reggae and dub to the line-up.

In a move that few saw coming, Mr Motivator will also be on site, to get those aching (and possibly hung-over?) limbs a good stretching to prepare us all for a full day of party-heartying.

Elsewhere on site, new arena “The Wishing Tree Field” boasts a sensory, solar powered haven, and instantly recognizable to Glastonbury goers, the “Chai-Wallahs” tents make their Bestival debut, providing respite in tea form.
