Jed Dwight at New Forest Show:

New Forest Show sees Jed Dwight take Poultry Championship

Many thanks to Jan for this report from the New Forest Show and details of an upcoming show on the Island. Ed

After years without any poultry section, this year saw a brilliant display of poultry on display at the New Forest Show, with entries over double what had been present in its first year in 2012.

After last year’s show, Islander Jed Dwight agreed to join forces with Ed Godwin, Poultry Section head, and Valerie Kitt, Southampton based poultry exhibitor, to get the poultry section established. In just its second year, the section brought in 200 poultry entries and a further 140 plates of eggs.

“The end result was worth the effort”
When asked about his thoughts on the 2013 show, Jed said

“I’m thrilled with the response we’ve had in respect to entries. Being based on the island has made things a little more difficult; however, I feel that the end result was worth the effort.

“Section Head Ed Godwin put a lot of work into the presentation of the marquee, and making other related attractions available, whilst myself and Valerie ensured the show met the standards of exhibitors. We were thrilled when the poultry section was awarded the prestigious ‘Presidents Award’ at the end of the show.”

Bringing home the awards
Further to helping to run the show, Jed was also once again flying the Isle of Wight flag, taking home the award for Overall Champion with his Steinbacher Gander, whilst young Islander Ella Rann-Avery, 13, took home the section award for Best True Bantam with her Belgium Barbu Du’Grubbe bantam.

Whiteoak Farm Open Day and Show
Jed is now looking ahead to his own Open Day and Show, due to take place on the 17th August at his home at Whiteoak Farm, Newtown.

Starting from 11am, and open to all, with under 16’s free, just a charge of £2 per adult, and hosting many attractions alongside the show itself, he hopes it will prove to be yet another success, bringing everything poultry related together for a great day out.

Raising money for worthy charities
The charity event will also being raising funds for the Royal Isle of Wight Agricultural Societies Bursary Fund, Poultry Club of Great Britain, and this year, for the first time, is thrilled to be raising funds for the Sophie Rolf Kissy Puppy Fund.

Finally, Jed would like anyone interested in entering, particularly children, to get in touch, whether it be poultry related photos, drawings, decorated eggs or birds themselves. Jed can be contacted on 531391 for more information.
