Jenson Wadsworth scores in shootout as Rovers claim Hampshire Cup glory

A young Isle of Wight footballer has capped an outstanding season by helping his team win a major county title on the Mainland.

Jenson Wadsworth, who plays for Baffins Milton Rovers, was part of the squad that took the Sunday Under-12s Hampshire Cup at Basingstoke FC’s ground in May.

The competition attracted 144 teams from across three counties, making the victory a significant achievement for the Portsmouth-based side.

Double triumph for Rovers
Baffins Milton Rovers also claimed the Portsmouth Sunday Under-12s A League title during the same season – a considerable feat given the high standard of football in that Mainland league.

Jenson’s own season highlight was, in his words,

“Winning the Hampshire Cup, scoring in the penalty shootout and the build-up and whole day and celebration.”

But also the fun times he has had with teammates throughout the year and with the brilliant coaches, who make it more than just about football.

Saturday football and serious dedication
Alongside his Sunday commitments, Jenson turned out on Saturdays for Pompey in the Community Junior Premier League, whose team reached the Hampshire Cup semi-finals.

Over the course of the season he played every outfield position and made the Mainland crossing four times a week for training and matches, travelling as far as Reading, Salisbury and Oxford, demonstrating his dedication to the sport.
