Figures for unemployed claimants came out this morning which show that 2,795 people on the Isle of Wight were claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) in July 2013.
Unemployment Benefit figures released by the Office for National Statistics show a fall of 110 since June 2013, which reported 2,905 JSA claimants, and a fall of 142 from July 2012 (2,937).
That means 3.4% of the resident population of area aged 16-64 is claiming JSA – 1.3% more than the rest of the South East (2.1%), and the same as the whole of the UK (3.4%).
