Revealing facts and statistics about the Island’s population are highlighted in the latest version of a report published by the Isle of Wight Council.
Information on residents’ health, life expectancy, income levels and lifestyle are included in the updated version of the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) – which will be used to help the council and other authorities prioritise future services. This will be done through the work of the new health and wellbeing board.
Collaboratively produced
The report, produced collaboratively by the council and NHS, provides an update on existing data concerning many issues that are already being addressed by the council and partner agencies.
The information will be reviewed and used to inform the health and wellbeing board’s three year strategy, ensuring the priorities reflect the needs of the Island community.
Comprehensive statistical analysis of the Island’s health
Ian Anderson, Isle of Wight Council strategic director for community wellbeing and social care, said: “The 2011 JSNA provides us with an up to date, comprehensive statistical analysis of the Island’s health and wellbeing.
“Whilst a large part of that data confirms that our focus and priorities continue to be channelled in the right direction, it is only by maintaining our understanding of where those key issues lie, through these regular updates, that the appropriate organisations will be able to address them more effectively.”
Doctor Jenifer Smith, director of public health, said: “Whilst most of the findings will be known to many health and social care professionals, by coordinating action across agencies and targeting this at the areas of greatest need, through the new health and wellbeing board, we can make better use of resources, improve health and wellbeing and reduce inequalities.”
