Congratulations to the Wight Satin Ladies’ Barbershop Chorus who came home jubilant from Bournemouth Music Competition Festival. Jenny tells us more, in her own words. Ed

Wight Satin Ladies' Barbershop ChorusOn Saturday, our chorus and quartets took part in the annual Bournemouth Music Competition Festival.

In the chorus contest we were awarded a Commended for our performance of two lovely songs from the ’70s, ‘If..’ and ‘California Dreaming’.

The competition this year was lively and there were some strong choruses in our class; we were proud to include four brand new members in our contest chorus, and it was great for them to see so much talent on show, as well as adding their own talents to our ranks.

First and second place
Later on our two quartets took part in the Barbershop Quartet class – and won both first and second places!

Island Edition, who were the winners, were thrilled to be awarded the highest mark, Outstanding (which translates as 90+ points), closely followed by Steppin’ Out who were awarded a much deserved Distinction.

It was a brilliant day, in spite of high winds and the odd rain shower and we were pleased and proud to represent the Isle of Wight in Bournemouth again.

Join our chorus
Wight Satin always has room for more singers.

We’re especially hoping to find some more women with sultry, sexy deep voices to join our Bass section, but whatever your vocal range, why not come along to one of our rehearsals on a Thursday evening at Carisbrooke Primary School, Wellington Rd, Newport, and see what we’re about?

We’re a friendly lot, and we welcome women singers of all ages.
