Congratulations to Island based artist and photographer Karen Grainger, who we hear has been has been selected as a finalist in two categories of the 2010 Julia Margaret Cameron Awards.
The awards organised by the World Wide Gala Awards organisation were set up to honour and recognise the work of women photographers at an international level with funds raised also going to Save the Children.
Selected for two categories
The categories her work has been selected for are ‘Professional Fine Art’ and ‘Professional Landscape’. The items entered were from a recent series made using mirrors taken out in situ and used to create hybrid compositions that are at once familiar and strange.
“I’m thrilled to have my landscape work selected for these awards – a fantastic coincidence with the work being shot so close to Julia Margaret’s home where she herself created her groundbreaking photography 150 years ago”.
Best of luck to Karen, we’ll let you know once we hear the results of the final awards which take place at the end of June.
More of Karen’s work can be seen at her Freshwater home and studio during the Isle of Wight Open Studios weekend 17th-18th July, or by appointment on 759288.
