Eurogroup4Animals presented an awards ceremony yesterday in recognition of contributions made to animal welfare at its Animal Welfare Conference held in Brussels.

The EU4Animals main award went to South East England MEP Keith Taylor.

The conference brings together stakeholders from many EU, National and international organisations as well as governments and decision makers to discuss how improvements in animal welfare can be addressed in the coming years.

Keith Taylor, Green MEP for South East England, said:

“I’m honoured to have been awarded the EU4Animals Award. I’m deeply committed to the welfare of animals and am very grateful to the many individuals and groups who I have worked with to prevent their suffering.

“It is encouraging that the European Union has led the way on some important issues by banning animal testing for cosmetics and the import of seal products. We still have a way to go to ensure greater protection for animals, such as farmed pigs, stray dogs and wild birds.

“However, with growing concern for animal welfare across the EU, our voice is getting stronger to ensure the lives of animals matter.”

Reineke Hameleers, Director at Eurogroup for Animals, said:

“We are extremely pleased to present these distinguished animal welfarists with these awards in recognition of their fantastic contribution to improving the welfare of so many animals. We hope they will continue to work to protect animal welfare and fight against cruel and unsustainable practices that impact animals directly every day.”

She concluded:

“It is only by recognising the inspiration certain people provide that we can develop and move forward. All three recipients have worked tirelessly in different fields and their efforts have truly made a difference. We hope that over the next year we will identify even more worthy organisations and individuals that display similar strengths and commitment and who also work to improve the welfare of as many animals as possible.”
