Kids asked to nominate the Isle of Wight’s ‘Best Teacher’

Isobel shares news of this competition

English Heritage’s Education team is calling for Isle of Wight students to choose the Island’s best teacher this November.

Entry forms have been sent to all the Island’s primary schools inviting kids to nominate their favourite teacher, by writing up to 100 words, illustrated with a picture if they like, explaining why they think their teacher is the best.

Education visits officer for the Isle of Wight, Shelley Kimber said:

“We offer free access to English Heritage sites for all schools and every week we see first-hand how hard the Island’s teacher’s work and how the great relationships they develop with their pupils help inspire and motivate them.” She continues: “Osborne and Carisbrooke Castle are a vital part of the Isle of Wight’s story, and it’s important to us that local children have the opportunity to enjoy and learn about them.

“In addition to our free self-led visits, and expert-led Discovery Visits, this year we’ve worked on some great projects with our local schools such as Isle of Wight Day and Kids Takeover Day. We’re always happy to hear from teachers with ideas for learning initiatives at our historic properties.”

Prizes for winning school
The winning pupil’s school will be given a free expert-led Discovery visit (worth £100) at Osborne or Carisbrooke Castle, where the new session, ‘Who lives in a house like this?’ has just launched.

The student themselves will receive £50 to spend in the English Heritage shop at Carisbrooke Castle or Osborne and the best teacher will be given a £100 English Heritage hamper full of goodies to enjoy.

The deadline for entries is the 2nd December 2016 and the winner, chosen by an English Heritage panel will be announced on Friday 9th.
