Lanesend Primary School receives ‘Good’ rating in all areas from Ofsted

Lanesend Primary School, Cowes has been rated ‘Good’ across all areas in its latest Ofsted inspection, marking a significant milestone for the school community.

Headteacher Mr Augustus shared the news, saying he is “thrilled” with the outcome and praised the hard work and dedication of pupils and staff.

Recognition for curriculum and reading
The OFSTED report highlighted several strengths in the school’s approach to education.

Inspectors noted that the school’s ambitious curriculum now clearly outlines the knowledge, skills and vocabulary pupils need to learn, along with when they should learn them.

Reading has become a central focus at Lanesend. Most pupils leave Key Stage 1 with strong phonics knowledge, and the books they read closely match the sounds they already know. This approach has helped build their reading fluency and confidence.

Strong progress across subjects
Inspectors also praised the way pupils learn across different subjects.

In science and physical education, for example, children develop key skills that build in complexity as they move through the school. Activities usually help pupils learn the curriculum effectively.

Pupils said they feel confident they are ready for the next stage of their education when they leave in Year 6.

Focus on broader development
The school’s commitment to pupils’ wider development also received positive mention.

From early years, where children learn about protecting nature, to older pupils taking on responsibilities and building self-confidence, the school places value on personal growth alongside academic learning.

Looking ahead
Mr Augustus said the recognition is a reflection of the progress the school has made. He said,

“This achievement reflects the tremendous progress we have made and the dedication of our pupils and staff.”

He added that the school community is excited about the future and will continue to provide an excellent education for all pupils.
