Arreton Tabard Community Theatre, well known for their outdoor, summer productions at Arreton Manor, are bringing the play “Lark Rise” to a Spring audience at St George’s Church Arreton next month.
The play takes a lively and often humorous look at a day in the life of a village in the 1890s and its occupants.
It was written by Keith Dewhurst to be performed with members of the Albion Band in the 1970s.
Sunday night TV addicts will have seen the BBC series Larkrise to Candleford. Both this series and the play are based on the stories of Flora Thompson’s own family life near Juniper Hill, in rural Oxfordshire. Our version uses the original script but many of our own choices of music and dance.
Director Isabel Favell and Musical Director Lin Watterson are bringing you a talented cast with ages ranging from 10 to 75!
The story is interwoven with traditional music and song, and our adaptation uses the skills of local folk musicians to bring you a very local slant on the play.
Please do come and support us in this lovely church setting. St George’s Church is in the lane close to Arreton Barns and behind the White Lion at Arreton and there is a Community Car Park available.
Performances are on Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd of April at 7.30pm. Doors open at 7pm. For families we have a matinee on Saturday 25th at 2.30pm (doors open at 2pm) and an evening performance at 7.30pm.
