Hat makers of all ages have just one week left to create their entries for the Sandown Bay Regatta Hat Competition.
The event takes place on Sunday 10th August, with judging scheduled from 2.30pm to 3pm.
Three categories to enter
This year’s competition features three prize categories:
- Best Hat: £100 prize
- Best Under 12: £25 prize
- Most Eccentric Hat: £25 prize
Participants should gather near the Sundial Cafe, Culver Parade, Sandown (PO36 8AT) on the beach at 2.30pm for the parade and judging.

Meet the judges
This year’s judging panel includes:
- Dadina Sagger – Founder of Island People and Film Fixers CIC. With a background in fashion, Dadina provides services to the film industry for productions such as The Cockfields and The Beast Must Die.
- Anmarie Bowler – Writer and founder of Brevity, the Isle of Wight’s Literary Handbill. Anmarie has a background in fashion and wrote the play AKA, which was adapted into an award-winning film.
- Joel Lines – A graduate of Central Saint Martins whose creations feature in the collection of Grayson Perry. Named by Vogue as “one to watch,” Joel is currently working on carnival outfits.

Organisers encourage entrants to enjoy the process of making their hats and to have fun with their designs.
With cash prizes up for grabs, a creative approach could see you crowned winner on the day.
