The Vectis Decorative Fine Arts Society returns to Quay Arts in Newport on Thursday 19th May.

They’ll be welcoming Alice Foster for a talk titled, “Cool Painting… the art of Piero della Francesca”.

Piero della Francesca is one of the most admired 15th century Italian painters.

The cool colour palette and geometrical compositions contribute to the refined and meditative nature of his works. He was born in Borgo Sansepolcro in Tuscany and worked in various central Italian towns, but retained links with Sansepolcro, visible in the background of his painting ‘The Baptism of Christ’.

Late in his life he described that the whole visual world could be described in only five geometric forms. He viewed the visual arts and mathematics with equal importance.
