Letter: Second home council tax premium shouldn’t apply to 42-weeks a year homes

This from Ray Butterfield. It follows on from Paul Carter’s Letter responding to the council’s decision – when the law is changed – to charge second home owners a much higher council tax than full-time residents. Ed

Further to your article re: second home council tax, I understand about the housing stock being taken by non- Islanders, but if the property is on a development where there are restrictions to 42 weeks a year occupancy, this isn’t any use to Islanders, so why propose it?

Increased Council Tax for Properties with full occupancy should be taxed.

Properties with 42 week occupancy should get a discount due less refuge, less wear and tear on roads and less on other local services.
