Attempting to not formulate an opinion of an actor from how arrogant they can be in the five-sense reality, is one joy of viewing that same actor appear in awful films.
However, ‘Irresistible’ is not awful. It is merely confusing. Lacking also in Anteaters of any description.
Bewildering results
The film is saved by Susan Sarandon’s performance, yet is either suffered by negative editing or by Ann Turner’s directing, which towards the finale causes bewildering results.
There is little to inspire reason in attempting to understand why a well-made psychological thriller causes the strong narrative to fail so embarrassingly in the final outcome, a shame indeed.
A question for the director
Considering the digital revolution boasts the potential to possibly contact director Ann Turner directly, the question to ask politely would be: “What on Earth was the supposed outcome of ‘Irresistible’ then?” Hey, I’m not that curious because I might seem foolish or be mistaken as she is in calling herself a director.
By the colossal Dictionary I possess, the definition is ‘too tempting or powerful to resist’ typed under Irresistible. If the film’s title were ‘Forgetful’ it would seem too accurate but at least not so misleading.
Listen Miss Turner, you have to be careful if you direct another film and you are competent enough to do so obviously. Someone, just watch this film and ask yourself is Susan Sarandon’s character the actual mother of Mara or is she just patronising her?
