It is good that the CPO has been deferred, although it should have been cancelled altogether. How can it ever be justified to force people out of their houses for the benefit of a land grab? Regarding the Solent Gateway project, decisions about that should have been deferred as well, as Councillor Baker-Smith suggested. Sadly, the Chair did not remain neutral on this issue, but urged it… Read more »

Never mind praising the Library managers. What about the staff who deal with all the hassles, at least Cinderella went to the ball with the handsome prince in the end. Library staff end up as the whores of the council doing anything for anyone for nothing except more redundancy!!!!

The CPO shows the difficulties the Greens have. Do they wish to be pro-worker and Green Socialist or eco-capitalist? They mouthe words such as “anti-capitalism” and “sustainability” sometimes only to use the movement for their brand of capitalist ends. The only reason that they dislike the 1% is because they can’t join them. They want to put their snouts into an ‘eco-friendly’ pig trough instead. Sure Conservatives are interested… Read more »

??? The Red Funnel planning application is flawed when it comes to employment opportunities and jobs for the island. Few jobs are set to be created by replacing a terminal building with a new one, and knocking down buildings currently occupied by over 100 skilled and professional workers in the marine send engineering industries. I do not dislike people in the 1%. In fact I know a… Read more »

East Cowes is being used as ‘damage limitation’ because of austerity cuts by the government. Paper J, 27; If the council chooses not to sign the SLEP funding agreement the Solent Gateways project will fail, resulting in the loss of not only the regeneration benefits to East Cowes but also to Southampton, an overall investment of £500 million. What was the point in deferring a Compulsary Purchase… Read more »

To Ali Hayden: Spot on! Due to “Austerity” (aka large scale privatisation) the Island is indeed treated as a prostitute, being forced to lift up her skirts to at times not even to the highest bidder, but whoever happens to come along… Emotive language, yes. Truthful? Well, the current businesses along the water front employ many high skilled people and if they were allowed to develop and… Read more »

Can anyone tell me if any decisions are ever MADE by this ludicrously divided council? All I ever read about are more deferrals. Being in power means making decisions, this lot seem incapable of that. Nothing is easy in local government, it never was. My polite suggestion to you all is if you cannot deal with the Islands opportunities and problems, please resign and let someone else… Read more »

Sounds a little menacing councillor, have you recently seen the new Kray film? Where do you think I get my information? I’ll take that as you being unable to qualify your comments about this administration in terms of deferrals you allege we (the Executive) have made….. in simple terms, you have failed to answer a very, very simple question….and one that can be answered from Public information.

As readers here can and will note, your allegations of being unable to make decisions are unfounded and incorrect.

Its very clear that decisions are made regularly and fairly efficiently.

How many deferrals have there been?

Oh thats right. You would rather snipe with made up garbage than actually acknowledge that you either dont know or are wrong.

No we didn’t. Hindhead got a tunnel and countryside regeneration; historically and environmentally important Twyford down was permanently damaged. That was described as the most controversial British motorway project ever, and subsequent road schemes were altered to take greater account of the environment or cancelled altogether. Now at East Cowes it is proposed that we should lose skilled jobs, businesses, homes, deep water access , and the… Read more »

To Sciolist: It is not just about the houses, if affects humans lives. Moreover, it is about far more than the houses, a big area of land in fact + the businesses working on it who contribute to the economy of this Island. “Being in power means making decisions”? I suppose none of you use the M3, preferring to drive on the old roads as a kind of futile protest? What kind of regeneration, Sciolist? More traffic, more fumes, more noise and 19 meter tall concrete boxes along the water front, can you even call that regeneration? What’s more, all this would be at the cost of well-functioning businesses which would have to move away from the Island, taking high-skilled employees with them. I don’t hate anything as long as it is aware, humane and benign to… Read more »

I think the Greens should mend their speeches a little. This disloyalty to people and jobs is betrayed by what Tanja would have us do. You cannot remove “mass production” or turn the clock backwards. One thing about capitalism, since the industrial revolution, is that it mastered commodity production and brought it to its height. Listen to what the socialists are saying, including McDonnell about balancing the… Read more »

To Rod Manley: Connectivity is important, but it can be done in a thinking manner, not by bulldozering pubs and houses and removing well-functioning businesses which carry on the proud tradition of East-Cowes as a generator of marine industry.

Food on the table is essential, but there is already enough food in this world. It just needs to be more equally distributed for the good of all.

How do you think food is distributed? How do you think food gets into Island supermarkets?

Rather than ridiculing someone for making a point, how about coming up with some sensible arguments to oppose points you disagree with?

Spot on Rod, the Greens posting here are Luddites, they resist change and progress, preferring to see us return to the dark ages. A Green philosophy is far from conservative and resisting change. Electoral reform, renewable energy, accountable schools, permaculture, emphasis on arts, investment in electric transport…. none of this is resisting change. Far from it. Politics of the future doesn’t have to look like the politics of the past. Progress in a sustainable world with pressures on resources doesn’t look like progress of the past.
