A loading ban to improve traffic flow and safety outside an Isle of Wight seafront restaurant has been given the go-ahead.
County Hall has decided to introduce a restriction outside The Mill Bay on The Esplanade in Ventnor after being told of vehicles with blue badges parking regularly on the double yellow line at the passing point in front of the premises.
A decision report said this has been causing ‘delays’ to traffic, reducing visibility and ‘posing danger’ to pedestrians.
Site visit with ward councillor
After a site visit with ward councillor Ed Blake, Island Roads and parking services, the council agreed to introduce a No Loading At Any Time restriction, subject to public consultation.
The report said,
“This new restriction was designed to prevent drivers stopping or parking, even for loading/unloading purposes, at the passing point; it is aiming to improve the traffic flow and safety in front of the restaurant.
“It is not anticipated that the new regulations would have a negative impact on protected characteristics.
“There are designated blue badge holders’ parking spaces on the Esplanade, also, improving the traffic flow and visibility will benefit them too.”
No objections received
No representations were received during the consultation and the estimated cost of introducing the policy is around £1,472.41, to be funded by the council.
