Michelle, Jason and Mia Rae Dight presenting their donation to the Maternity staff at St. Mary’s Hospital

Lola Rose’s memory will live on in labour ward’s new relaxing courtyard area

An outdoor area that is calm and relaxing for families to enjoy will be made possible with thanks to a generous donation in memory of baby Lola Rose.

Sadly, Lola Rose Dight was born stillborn in June 2019. Parents, Michelle and Jason Dight felt they wanted to do something to support the Maternity Unit at St Mary’s Hospital and so they began to fundraise in memory of their beautiful daughter.

£3,000 raised
Together with the help and support of friends and family the Dight family organised various fundraising events across the Island including a collection at Lola’s funeral and the Co-op in Cowes supported with a fancy dress fundraising day to help raise funds. Together they have raised an incredible £3,000.

Their wish is to transform an outdoor courtyard outside the labour ward and make it a space for families to enjoy and spend time when they come to have their baby.

Dight: “We want to say a big thank you to St Mary’s”
Michelle said,

“Despite that time being the hardest of our lives we were so impressed by the knowledge and support of all the people that looked after us at St Mary’s.

“We are so grateful to the Maternity Unit that we felt the need to do something for them in return so we started a ‘JustGiving’ page and began collecting donations and we have been overwhelmed with the response from friends and family and all the generous people in our area.

“Hopefully our donation can help create a lovely outdoor area and we will be providing garden furniture in memory of our little Lola Rose.

“We want to say a big thank you  to St Mary’s. We cannot thank the team enough for the care and support we received. The memory box, arranged by the charity 4Louis, that we were given at the time has been a real comfort to us, it’s not something you think of at the time but it makes a huge difference afterwards.  We will always be grateful to all those who helped us through such a tough time.”

Pearson: The memory of Lola Rose will live on
Director of Midwifery, Amanda Pearson said,

“We are very thankful to Michelle, Jason and everyone who has donated to the maternity department following the loss of Lola Rose.

“The donation will support the transformation of the garden area and we look forward to welcoming the family back to show them how the memory of Lola Rose will live on through this outdoor space which will benefit many families to come.”

In 2021 the maternity team were delighted to welcome the arrival of baby Mia Rae, daughter to Michelle and Jason who will soon be celebrating her first birthday in February.

Michelle and Jason Dight presented their donation to the Maternity Team at St Mary’s Hospital on Friday 21st January 2022.
