Lord Louis Library supports Spellow with solidarity light display

The Lord Louis Library in Newport is set to ‘share the light’ this week in a heart-warming display of solidarity, hope and joy.

This event aims to support Spellow Library and Community Hub in Liverpool, which was vandalised during race riots this summer.

After months of dedicated restoration efforts and community support, the library has been returned to its former glory and will reopen on Thursday.

Symbolising collective commitment to preservation
To celebrate this milestone and highlight the essential role libraries play in our communities, libraries across the country are being encouraged to ‘bring back the light’ on Wednesday evening (11th December), by illuminating their buildings.

At the Lord Louis Library, staff will place lamp in some of its windows to symbolise our collective commitment to preserving these vital spaces.

Jones-Evans: Libraries are more than just buildings filled with books
Councillor Julie Jones-Evans, Cabinet member for libraries, said,

“We are proud to stand with Spellow Library and all libraries that serve as beacons of knowledge and community.

“Libraries are more than just buildings filled with books; they are sanctuaries of learning, creativity, and connection.

“By illuminating our windows, we hope to inspire others to recognise and support the invaluable role libraries play in enriching our lives and strengthening our communities.”

The Isle of Wight Library Service extends its best wishes to Spellow Library for a successful reopening and a bright future ahead.
