VB readers may remember the report yesterday morning of severe ferry delays at Lymington.
Once again loading and unloading at Lymington is proving troublesome this morning.
VB reader Laurence Holmes told us that “Lymington to Yarmouth service is running an estimated 40 minutes late this morning … I see a pattern emerging.”
He told us that the 7:50am scheduled service (this is the revised hourly service) ended up departing at 8:38am, that’s nearly 50 minutes late.
First day of berth works
On the first day of berth works that are expected to last three months, customers were hit by delays to the service as low loading vehicles had trouble getting on and off the ferry via a barge.
Yesterday morning delays of 40-50 minutes were being incurred, but by the evening rush hour, customers’ frustration increased.
17.00 sailing left at 17.54
We had many reports from readers on the 17.00 from Lymington, which due to the unloading and loading problems, didn’t leave until 17.54.
However, within minutes of setting off, according to one reader, the ferry run aground. “Ferry now aground and stuck on mud. Lots of shuddering and noise. They are trying to zigzag us off the mud.” he told us.
Doing the best they can
As the video below shows (you’ll need to turn head on side to watch), Wightlink ferry staff are clearly doing the best the can in a difficult situation.
What’s difficult to understand is why this hadn’t been planned for during the extended legal battles over the last two years.
