If you’re walking up or down Lower Gills Cliff Road in Ventnor, take note of the cones marking off a newly discovered hole in the pavement.
It’s difficult to get an idea of the scale from the photos below, but the hole in the tarmac reveals a void about 20cm wide and twice as deep underneath the pavement.
The void does seem to be contained within the area sectioned off by the cones, so we assume should be safe to walk past.
Ryde void
However, Ventnor is not the only town on the Island subject to these voids suddenly appearing.
Island Roads tweeted about this void in Ryde earlier today,
Adelaide Place, Ryde has been closed due to a void in the carriageway close to the junction of King George V Close.
