Making Moves project a chance to get creative through the medium of dance

Independent Arts is launching new project ‘Making Moves’, giving Islanders a chance to get creative through the medium of dance. Sessions will be led by practitioner Michelle Hainsworth who has wide experience of running dance projects for all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.

Making Moves is designed to help improve general health and wellbeing as well as boosting confidence and a chance to meet new people.

The project will initially run for six weeks and has been kindly funded by the ASDA Foundation, so sessions will be free for participants.

Griffiths: Dance is a great way to boost your mood
Community Engagement Manager Hannah Griffiths says,

“We’re really looking forward to getting a diverse group of dancers together to create something beautiful.

“Dance gives us chance to express ourselves in a different kind of way and is a great way to boost your mood.

“We want to get everyone involved and we are opening half the spaces in the sessions to those who have learning disabilities.”

Hainsworth: You’ll need to have a basic level of fitness
Practitioner Michelle Hainsworth says,

“We will be dancing for the whole session so anyone wanting to get involved will need to have a basic level of fitness.

“You don’t need any special equipment; we’ll be dancing barefoot so comfortable clothes you can move around in and a bottle of water are the only thing you’ll need.

“Anyone over 16 is invited to book a space and come along.”

Where and when
The sessions will take place weekly on Thursday morning in the Dance Studio at Medina Leisure Centre beginning on 15th September.
