Detectives have launched an investigation following the death of two people in Shanklin on the Isle of Wight.

Officers were called to an address in Albert Road at 7.10am today (Monday, June 20).

On arrival officers found the body of a 77-year-old man and an 83-year-old woman.

At this stage police are treating this as an isolated incident and we would like to reassure the community that there is no wider risk.

Investigations will continue at the scene as officers work on behalf of the coroner to establish the exact circumstances of the deaths but detectives can confirm that they are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

The cordon on the road will remain in place until later this afternoon and we would like to thank residents for their patience as we deal with this incident.

Formal identification procedures are ongoing and we will not be in a position to confirm the names of the deceased until these are complete.

Specialist officers are currently supporting the next of kin.

Post mortem examinations are due to take place tomorrow.
