Man arrested on suspicion of rape

Police were called just after 3.30am on Sunday, June 21, 2015 to the Hunnyhill area of the town between Heytesbury Road and Grange Drive where a woman aged in her early 20s was sexually assaulted by one man.

The scene was sealed off for a forensic examination.

Isolated incident
Initial enquiries suggest this is an isolated incident with no wider risk to the community at this time.

Detectives are following several leads with specialist officers working closely with the victim to support her welfare.

Neighbourhood officers and PCSOs are carrying out extra patrols in the local community to provide reassurance.

The suspect, who was arrested on the Island this afternoon (Monday, 22 June 2015), remains in police custody this evening (Monday) for further questioning.
