Man faces charges after knifepoint robbery in Newport

A man has been charged in connection with a knifepoint robbery in St Thomas’s Square, Newport.

Police were called at 11.39pm on Thursday 18th January by a man in his 20s reporting he had been threatened by a man with a knife, who subsequently stole his phone and some cash.

Officers attended and arrested a man nearby.

A 22-year-old of Holyrood Street in Newport, was charged with robbery and possession of a knife in a public place.

Remanded in custody
He was remanded in custody to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court today (Monday 22nd January).

At the hearing, he was remanded further to appear at Isle of Wight Crown Court on 19th February.
