Many Island roads closed due to icy conditions (updated)

Late last night the Isle of Wight council sent out the following information in relation to road closures due to icy conditions.

As we reported on Twitter last night, Newport Police advised there were several road traffic incidents last night, with luckily nobody seriously injured.

These were: Hillway Road, Bembridge, between Howgate Road and Sandown Road; Niton Road between the Chequers and Southford Lane; Appleford Road from Chale Green to Leechmore Cross and Princelett Shute, Apse Heath between Canteen Road and Branstone Cross. Road conditions are difficult so please drive carefully even on gritted routes.

There is no news yet (7.30am) as to whether they’ve re-opened.

We’ll let you know once we’ve had an update.

Update 9.45:
Princelett Shute in Apse Heath between Canteen Road and Branstone Cross is now open.

Update 11.35: Road closure: Niton Road, Rookley and Appleford Road are currently being re-opened by IWC officers
