Endurance athlete Matthew Dawson is preparing to take on a unique solo challenge around the Isle of Wight this summer, in a bid to raise vital funds for Access Sport.
Matthew, who is also a Trustee of the national sport inclusion charity, will attempt to complete a triple circumnavigation of the Island over 72 continuous hours.
Three ways around the Island
Beginning on 23rd August, Matthew will circle the Isle of Wight once by swimming, once by cycling, and once by running.
The total distance exceeds 310km and includes a 100km open water swim, a 105km road cycle, and a 107km ultra-marathon run.
He has chosen this challenge to support Access Sport’s mission of creating inclusive sporting opportunities for disabled and disadvantaged children.
Raising funds for inclusion
Access Sport aims to reach 50,000 young people every year by 2027. The funds raised through Matthew’s challenge will go directly toward building inclusive community sport programmes across the UK.
Matthew said,
“This challenge isn’t about me, it’s about the young people who deserve better access to inclusive community sport.
“Every donation helps create safe, welcoming spaces for children who’ve been left out for too long.”

Several organisations have stepped in to support the challenge, including Inov8, Moorlake Campervans, Ruislip Appliances, RS Marine Group, Seaview Yacht Club, and PredictWind.
Each has played a role in helping Matthew prepare for the scale and complexity of the feat.
